Part One:
Research an issue or topic brought up in one of the stories
(nuclear war, television taking over/having a bad influence, time travel, smart houses, too much emphasis on being equal, too much technology, or one of your choice)
and share your finding in the blog with a short summary of what you researched.
Include a work cited entry immediately after the summary.
It can be from a web site,an article in a magazine, a newspaper, etc.
You may do this with a partner. Be sure to sign both names.
This is due Monday Oct. 15th.
Part Two:
React to someone else's research in a 4 point OGT style response.
This may also be done with a partner. Type this reaction in BLUE so it is easier to find.
This is due Monday Oct. 22nd.

Cloning is the creation of an organism that is an exact genetic copy of another, in which the entire DNA is the same. Identical twins are human clones among us right now! There are three types of cloning technologies, including DNA cloning, reproductive cloning, and therapeutic cloning. A tadpole was the first animal cloned in 1952. Scientists believe that cloning may be used to generate tissues and organs for transplants. However, more than 90% of cloning attempts fail to produce viable offspring, and tend to have higher rates of infection, tumor growth, and other disorders. Considering that only about 1 or 2 offspring for every 100 experiments are viable, physicians and scientists believe that it would be unethical to attempt to clone humans.

Cloning is can be both beneficial and a curse. It can be beneficial for a couple of reasons. One reason is that it can further the research that scientists have worked to create another form of the same person. Another reason is that it can cause technological advances all over the world for science in general. As cloning can be beneficial it is also a curse for a couple reasons. One reason is that it is not right to clone another person because it could cause major problems in society. Another reason that cloning cause problems to the test subject that is being tested such as animals, such reason is why cloning is not legal for humans. Whether cloning is right or wrong eventually the subject of cloning will eventually be a wider subject in the field of science.

** New developing research is showing certain television-viewing habits in children under 5½ years of age can result in behavioral problems. The studies show various statistics in different ages, habits, and problems. In one study, geared toward learning statistics, 16% of parents said their 2½ or younger child watched 2 or more hours of television a day while 15% of parents said their 5½ child watched 2 or more hours of TV a day. The study also found that by age 5½ 41% of children had a TV in their bedroom. The effects of this lengthy viewing cause problems such as sleep, attention, and aggressive behavior to arise. In those children at age 5½ who were exposed to 2 or more hours of TV also developed fewer social and emotional skills. Professionals have now recommended no television be shown to children 2 and younger. They also suggest that children over 2 only be permitted to less than 2 hours of programming.****Jennifer Warner. “Too Much TV Linked to Behavior Problems”. 1 October 2007. Time travel is now becoming more possible, with the findings of Amos Ori a physicist in the Technion Israel Institute of Technology. Travel into the future is theoretically possible according to Einstein’s theory of relativity. Take for example, a person in a rocket ship travels into space at slightly less than the speed of light. The speed would cause the ship to slow down time for the traveler. The person could then return to Earth in the future. Traveling to the past is also made possible by Einstein’s theory. It shows that gravity curves space-time and slows the clock down. This gravity curve could be made artificially or naturally. The loop could make it possible to travel back in time.

Having a smart house can be very useful. A smart environment has an intelligent agent that is able to apply some knowledge about the environment and the people living in the house in order to improve their reasons for living. Some things that would make the house operate would be that you would have to have a conversation with the fridge in order for it to open. It is a suite of sensors for people living independently and elderly at home. The sensors are programmed into little camera's that detect a persons every move. The technology has made our environment smarter and more responsible to make our needs possible. The Sensors include: actuators, radio frequency identification tags, large touch-screen displays, digital cameras, personal software agents, machine-learning algorithms, voice-and image-recognition software, and even robots that aren't just part of the science fiction writers. The researches at Stanford University consider these software downloads as the "iroom". They are currently trying to come up with new ways to make peoples lives more structured and easier to be developed. In the near future, many researches think that we will end up using robots to make domestic tasks possible. Some things that they will be able to do are: house cleaning, disaster rescue, fast-food training, nursing, opponents in board games, and security. We could end up seeing the first "humanoid" robot football game. We could also expect to see robots that surround your desks while we are at school to make sure that you are doing what you are suppose to be doing. They will also talk back to you. If you say or ask it a question, it will repeat your question and it will also respond with an answer. These things would make our lives and also every other peoples lives more responsible but they would also have some rules that they would have to follow.Works CitedCook, Diane. I would personally love to have a smart house. Not having to do very much would be awesome. Although I’d probably become really lazy, and not ever want to do anything. If I had to talk to my refrigerator just to get it too open, I would talk to mine all the time. I also think this would be a good home because if an older person were living in one and something just suddenly happened the house would be able to tell what’s wrong and contact someone. Although I don’t like the whole robot watching your every move kind of thing, it’d be cool to have something watching you just in case you get hurt. Also, having something that can actually help with homework would help a lot. Many students would probably get better grades. Although it’d be better if they helped figure out the problem instead of just answering the question asked. Smart houses could help our society in many ways, but it can also cause some major problems.

We all dream of having some robot or something that will come into our home and clean, or do any other ordered task. In reality, I would not like to have a robot around. What would happen to human beings? We live in a society different than years ago, so it doesn’t surprise me that robots may be available some day. I still believe in a sense of self accomplishment and pride in doing something for yourself and others, so what would life and humans be like with a robot?

How can 41 % of kids by the age of 5 have televisions in their bedrooms? That is absolutely outrageous. I am a sophomore in high school and I do not have a television in my room. Because these children are glued to the tube, they have no communication or interaction with their friends. People are influenced all the time by the fantasy of television, so why would parents let it influence their toddlers? There are shows out there that are educational and made for the little ones to learn from. I agree with the recommendation that children under the age of 2 should not watch television, and children over 2 can watch no more than a limited two hours.

In raising 4 children of my own, I have had no major issues with TV at any age. They range in age from 16 to 3 and they all do very well in school and none of them has a television in their bedroom. TV can be a very good or bad learning tool depending on how it is used. I think those children that have behavior problems from watching too much TV falls back on the parents not monitoring what is watched and how long TV is watched. There are good shows that can teach children of all ages, young and old, things that are good and good for them. In our household TV is monitored by what is watched and how long it is watched. Work is to be done first (everyone has chores around the house that I expect to be done before play time) and homework is not allowed in front of the TV. If I feel things aren't done or the TV has been on too long, I shut it off and they have to read or find something to do. I think in todays world parents aren't monitoring what their children are doing. They need to be more active in their childrens lives and spend more time with their kids. If parents spent more time being active in their kids lives and knowing what they were up to, we would not have some of the issues that we have today.
Dennis Clemens (Deanna Zimmerman)
I personally do not like watching television. Most programs are not geared towards children. When parents are watching a certain program, their children also are watching. If parents monitor what they are watching, that is okay. There are educational programs that you can really learn from such as medical or food channels. Also, many educational cartoon programs are out there that teach basic counting, learning your alphabet or different family situations are great for children to watch to learn. Bottom line, television needs to be monitored or controled so they are not watching what they want, that may not teach good habits or how much time the spend watching television. There are more activities that can be more beneficial to children than sitting and wathing television, such as exercising outside or playing different sporting events.
